Dunamis Karate News April 2019 Spring is in full swing and before we know it, summer will be here.  We have a lot of things going on this month including BELT TESTING.  So, mark your calendars now so you don't miss a thing! Printable Calendar  This month we start taking orders for our "summer uniforms."  Students will be allowed to wear a Dunamis Karate tee and Dunamis shorts in place of the traditional uniforms.  Only tees/shorts with the Dunamis logo will be acceptable replacements to the full uniform.  We will have a cool summer tee design ready for you to view soon. For our Hampton students, this tee will also serve as our Watermelon Festival uniform so you will be required to purchase one in order to participate in the festival performance.  Summer Shorts must be past the fingertips!!!  Bring us your shorts and we will have the logo put on the shorts for you. Because we still want to make sure our students look like a TEAM, only shorts and shirts with the Dunamis logo will be allowed on the mat!   DEADLINE FOR TEE ORDERS IS APRIL 20! April 6th  1:00 PM in Hampton We are excited to be preparing to test the first Black Belts from the Hampton location.  The first step in the Black Belt test process is to pass a "pretest." If the students "pass" the pretest, then they will be allowed to go through the actual Black Belt test on April 27th at 11:00 AM.   Friday, April 12  6:00-9:00 PM in HAMPTON The theme for this 3 hour Parents Night Out is “Some Assembly Required” where your child will have a BLAST being a master builder. They’ll do all sorts of FUN things including… Learn how to build fast and fight like a "brickster" – yes! Build forts, spaceships and pirate ships – oh my! Fight off the greys & take down Lord grey using different targets, body shields & hand targets – so cool! Laugh and play with other Lego-loving kids – birds of a feather… Learn about teamwork – so rewarding! Hone their “think on their feet fast “skills – awesome! Recharge with a Lego-based snack – now you’re talkin! And more! “Everything is Awesome”… just like the theme song in The Lego Movie. 😉 This event is 3 hours, which means you’ll have 3 hours of some much-needed time for yourself, ahhh… 🤗 Spots are Limited… and always fill up FAST! 💨 So, be sure to REGISTER NOW! 2nd & 3rd Degree Test & Regional Workouts UFAF Members - You are invited to attend the Region 7 workouts that will be held at Club Karate in Beaufort, SC on Saturday, April 13th.  The first seminar will start at 2:30 pm.  Mrs. Andi Lynn will be teaching bo and nunchuck tricks and skills to add to your weapons form.  (You will need to bring your own bo and double nunchucks to participate in the weapon seminar.)  Then at 4:00, Mr. James Bannister will teach some BJJ grappling skills. These seminars are FREE OF CHARGE to UFAF MEMBERS ONLY.  If you are not a UFAF member, visit www.UFAF.org to join! The Black Belt test starts at 10:00 AM. Two students from Dunamis Karate will be part of the test.  Mr. DJ Daring is testing for 2nd Degree and Tyler Simmons is testing for 3rd Degree.  The test is open and free to watch.  T-Shirt Week April 15-18 For a $1.00 Daily Donation, students can wear a tee in place of the hot gi top!  All money raised will go toward mission work in Liberia, West Africa.   April 24-25 BELT TESTING During Class Wednesday and Thursday, April 24-25, we will be belt testing during class time.  Check the list below to make sure you meet ALL the requirements: Clean Well-Fitting White Uniform Minimum 80% class attendance Tuition payments must be up to date Test fee paid prior to testing or a $10 late fee will added (pay through the app and no paper test form is required.  Pay by cash or check and we will need this TEST FORM turned in as well!) Flag patch at Dunamis patch attached to uniform (Gold Belts & Up) Fight Night attendance (Purple Belts & Up) Active UFAF membership with UFAF patch on the left chest (Purple Belts & Up) The FLOOR IS LAVA Parents Night Out Friday, April 26th 6:00-9:00 in RIDGELAND Here’s your chance to take a well-deserved break from your kids with our Floor is Lava Parent’s Night Out Event! All you gotta do is drop your kids off at our school for 3 hours where they’ll have a BLAST jumping from obstacle to obstacle and doing all the FUN things they LOVE ?? to do including… • Participate in fun games includes lava ball, volcanic obstacle course, & more! • Play & have fun with their friends • Work as a team to avoid the lava • Leap, jump, and bounce everywhere to avoid the liquid, hot, magma • Re-fuel with delicious snacks • And so much more! This night is sure to be HOT! And when the kids are away for 3 hours, that means a whole lot of R&R for you! Spots are Limited… and always fill up FAST… So be sure to Register Now! P.S. Buddy Days - Bring A Friend April 29 - April 30 Back to the 80's Class Themed Drills When our students work hard, we love to give back. That's why we put our heads together and came up with something awesome - Back to the 80’s Classes! On April 29 & 30th, our students will get to rock out to some great tunes, learn the infamous crane kick, and develop their eye of the tiger! This is your chance to bring a friend to class with you and let them share your passion and excitement of the martial arts.  Current students do NOT need to register, however, if you are bringing a friend, YOUR FRIEND MUST REGISTER. Start Summer Uniforms May 6 Starting May 6 students will be allowed to wear our "summer uniform" in place of the hot traditional uniforms.  Summer uniforms consist of a Dunamis Karate logoed tee and Dunamis Karate logoed shorts. Be sure to place your tee order before April 20th and bring us your "approved" shorts (longer than the fingertips) so we can have the logo applied! The summer uniforms will be allowed through October! Hyper Fight Club - Friday, May 10   6:00 PM Purple Belts and Up - this is your next chance to meet your testing requirements by attending a Hyper Fight Club.  This will be the first of two chances before the next belt test in June.  Remember you must have ALL YOUR OWN SPARRING GEAR!  Contact us now so we can get you measured and order the appropriate gear to fit your needs! MISSION TRIP MAY 23 - June 1 Heads Up - Mrs. Woods, Mrs. Andi Lynn, Mr. Jim, Pastor Brian and Miss Gracie will be headed to Liberia, West Africa for a mission trip.  The Hampton location will remain open while they are gone.  Miss Candi will be covering all the classes.  The RIDGELAND location will CLOSE while they are gone.  We will offer make up classes to allow students to make up the time they miss while we are out of the country.  The first make up class will be Saturday, May 18th ... Tiny Tigers at 10:00, Youth/Adults 10:30 - 12:00. The nextmake up class will be Saturday, June 8th ... Tiny Tigers at 10:00, Youth/Adults 10:30 - 12:00. Mark these dates on your calendars NOW so you don't forget! HAMPTON COUNTY WATERMELON FESTIVAL KARATE PERFORMANCE FRIDAY, JUNE 21 7:30 PM Hampton students, we will once again perform for the Watermelon Festival.  We are scheduled to perform right before the street dance on Friday, June 21st at 7:30 pm.  In order to prepare for this performance, on Saturday, June 15thwe will hold a special practice day.  Tiny Tigers 10:30 Beginners 11:00 Int/Adv 11:30 We will also be working on pieces of the performance during class leading up to the big show. On Friday, June 21st, we will meet at Dunamis Karate in Hampton at 6:30 PM for one last practice run before our performance.   Students MUST have the special SUMMER TEE in order to participate in the Watermelon Festival performance ... So be sure to place your order by April 20th!

Dunamis Karate Newsletter March 2019 We've got several special events coming this month and you don't want to miss ANYTHING!!  Mark your calendars now so you are sure to remember. We kick off the first week of March celebrating our students’ belt testing success with some fun “Web Crawler” themed classes.  This is also the first week of our curriculum and therefore the perfect week to bring a buddy to class! Hyper Fight Club March 8 and March 29 6:00-7:00     $5.00 Hyper Fight Club will now be held at BOTH locations on the same night, so Hampton students can attend in Hampton and Ridgeland students can attend in Ridgeland. Remember Hyper Fight Club is required for Purple Belts and up… you must attend at least 1 every other month in order to be eligible to test.  There will be no fight night in April ... so both your opportunities to attend a class before belt testing is This Month! So, we thought it would be “Incredible” FUN to have a Super Fam Parent’s Night Out! 🤗 and I guarantee both you and your kids will LOVE 💚 it! Why?  Because your kids get to dress up like their favorite superhero and come to our school for 3 hours to experience nothing but sheer FUN with lots of superpower games, learning activities and superhero snacks! Dunamis Karate News February 2019 We have a LOT of things happening this month climaxing with our karate belt testing on Feb. 27 & 28th.  Mark your calendars now so you don't miss anything that's happening this month. Printable Calendar/Exam Request Form Goodwill Tournament Flyer Tournament Registration Form Friday, February 8th at 6:00 will the last chance for Purple Belts & Up to meet their sparring requirements before belt testing at the end of the month.  Remember, Purple Belts and up must attend at least 1 fight night every other month (on average) in order to be eligible to test.  So, if you didn't come to the January fight night, you need to be at this one!!! If you’re still hem-hawing 🤔 about our Super Fam Parent’s Night Out… I just want to let you know there are only 7 Spots Left! 😲 As a parent, I know how hard it is to find 👀 some free time… ANY free time 🙏 … away from your kids… so you can do whatever the heck you want. Well, here’s your chance to do that for 3 hours… 🤗 While your kids come to our school for 3 hours of Superhero Super-fun! It’s truly a win-win for you AND your kids! 👍 Get all the deets and ➡️  Register Here… Just remember… there are only 7 Spots Left! So… go out, relax and have some much-needed fun yourself! You don’t want to miss this! 🏃 Thanks to your $1.00 donations during t-shirt week last month, we raised $100 for school fees for these children in Liberia, West Africa.  Well, more support is needed so we are having another T-Shirt Week February 18-21st.  For a $1.00 donation each day, students can wear a tee in place of their gi.  And know that when you give, your money is going to a very worthy cause! Every year our school participates in the GOODWILL TOURNAMENT, which is held in the Beaufort High School Gym.  This is the only local tournament we attend and therefore the only chance for our students to compete without having to travel a great distance. This is a GREAT tournament for all ages and ranks.  Divisions are broken up into small groups so students don't have to compete against 15-20 other competitors.  There will even be a special division just for the TINY TIGERS! Pre-register by February 17th and the cost is only $50 for 1-3 divisions.  After the early bird deadline, the cost will be $60. Download your registration form here. To learn more about the tournament, click here for the flyer. Mail it along with a cashier's check or money order directly to Chuck Elias to register. We will have a Tournament Prep Class on Friday, Feb. 22nd at 6:00.  This class will be a practice run allowing students to practice speaking to the judges and demonstrating their kataand/or weapon.  It is a great way to work out some nerves before the actual tournament.
